Tolbooth

For the second instalment I’ll be switching it up and trying a much more traditional establishment which Is also based in the merchant city area. This premises dates back to 1906 making it one of the oldest pubs in Glasgow leading me to think that they would definitely know their way round a stout.

From the outside it certainly doesn’t look like much, but as soon as you take a step through the door you’re met with a blast of live music and a very cosy atmosphere; a proper battle cruiser. Live music runs 7 days a week from 5pm onwards and we were lucky enough to have the Whisky Blinders playing, lighting the place up. It must be said they were 2 fairly crispy looking characters but they certainly knew their way around a guitar. They also happened to look like every other punter in the bar, with the average age definitely in excess of 70 and apparently also operating a strict baldys only entry policy.

Now down to the nitty gritty. It’s always a slightly concerning sight when there’s a bit of bubble formation on the top of the pint but I put aside my concerns and approached it with an open mind.  All in all a fairly solid pint that wouldn’t be out of place in most pubs, however it wasn’t quite the creamy goodness I had anticipated. With that being said it was certainly redeemed by the price point. Coming in at £3.10 it’s unlikely you’ll find a pint anywhere in the city for cheaper. With all things considered a very enjoyable outing, that was until Elliot decided he couldn’t stomach his 3rd pint and plastered the pavement on the walk home. Will be back.

Setting: 9/10

Price: £3.10

Pint: 7.3/10
